What does artist in residence mean?
Being an artist in residence at the KCC means you can apply for a period of time to live and work in here at the studio in Cambodia. Artists find this a valuable time to experiment and investigate new directions in their work. Artists can come here to complete a specific project or to find inspiration from the rich Khmer artistic patrimony. Even if they are participation fees to stay in KCC in residency, the artist in residence is not a customer, he is considered as a fellow artist integrating our group for a defined time and that with rights and duties.

Why to be artist in residence?
Many artists work in their own studios, often in isolation. The creative spirit needs contact with other artists to expand and flourish. The influences and inspiration gained from working in a new environment, responding to the surroundings and people can often be life changing. Artist in residence schemes have grown in the last few years with many artistic disciplines recognizing their value and need.

Why we (KCC) want artists in residence?
Khmer potters, like every potters, need contacts with peers from abroad; however they don’t have means to travel. Residencies are a mean to provoke this exchange. Our aim from your residence is to share our passion for ceramics making, technical and artistic experience.
