From 500 years ago; Cambodia lost its ceramics craftsmen; last events endured by the Khmer population completely extinguish this knowledge. Moreover, every days Khmer Antiques Ceramics are illegally trade and exported from Cambodia. This critical situation prompted a concerned group of international scholars and ceramists to form The National Center for Khmer Ceramics Revival (NCKCR), a non-profit organization dedicated to provoke the rebirth of the ceramics sector in Cambodia. The National Center for Khmer Ceramics Revival is working to achieve those aims and to raise awareness about its national requirement. The International Khmer Ceramics Festival (IKCF) was founded by The National Center for Khmer Ceramics Revival (NCKCR). From the beginning of its activity, the NCKCR was stupefied by the nimbleness and knowledge thirsty showed by new Khmer potters; however lack of ; technologies ; mind opening and internationals exchanges hinder this major Khmer Traditional Art’s rebirth. Following this preoccupation and due to the fact of those internationals exchanges are indispensables, the NCKCR constitute as its mission to construct it. To better achieve this goal, NCKCR founded the IKCF. Consequently of its announcement to few concerned peoples, the IKCF was immediately adopted; by academicians, scholars and international renowned ceramists, everybody express the necessity of the IKCF. The IKCF receive already numerous featuring promises, before its first press communicates, in medias including: Ceramics Monthly, Ceramic Art International, The Journal of Australian Ceramics. First press communicate is scheduled for the 1st August 2007. During its first edition, the IKCF undertake a substantial task. Founded 95% by the NCKCR, the rest will be covered by private, society and/or institutional ; the IKCF invite Khmers potters from all the country to profit about the competences transfer generate during this symposium; invite 5 internationals renowned ceramists ; organize, in collaboration with the Center for Khmer Studies, two days of international lectures including the participation of scholars and leaders in the South-east Asiatic studies and renowned ceramists; enhance Khmer Contemporary Ceramics Art on international scene and perform a scientific experiment with the first firing of a Khmer Antique Kiln reconstitution. Fallout of the IKCF must be decentralized, aiming; ceramics knowledge access for more disadvantaged persons in rural areas. The NCKCR setup rural workshops and offer structured sessions of vocational training to achieve its goals. Technological transfer occurring in the IKCF duration will be hand down to Khmers potters. The International Khmer Ceramics Festival starts up an important program and numerous are planned for futures editions. The IKCF ; will let the Khmers potters take advantage of its Ceramics specialized library ; will offer opportunity for Khmer potters to works with imported raw materials. The IKCF is an annually event aiming to enhance Khmer Ceramics Art on the international scene. |
